Obituary for Robert Sarmento

Robert Sarmento, 76, of Lowell, passed away, Jan. 3, after a brief battle with cancer at Palm Center in Chelmsford.

He was born in Lowell on March 16, 1941, the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Shugrue) Sarmento.

Mr. Sarmento was a graduate of Sacred Heart School in Lowell and life-long member of Sacred Heart Parish. He was employed in the printing industry from an early age until his retirement.

Robert was an avid sports fan; the Yankees, NY Giants, Celtics and Bruins were his favorites. He also enjoyed the game of KENO.

Mr. Sarmento was predeceased by a brother, Michael Sarmento and a sister, Judith Bobola as well a nephew, Michael Pugh.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Layte and her husband Steven of Lowell, son, Robert Sarmento and his wife Virginia of Dracut, sister, Donna Pugh of CO, brother, Richard Sarmento and his wife Margaret of Hampton, NH, five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

At the request of his family, all funeral arrangements are private and at their convenience. Contributions in his memory may be made to Zack’s Team, 50 Tower Farm Rd. Billerica, MA 01821.
