Obituary for Shirley E. Rosatone

Shirley E. (Pare) Rosatone, 87, of Haverhill, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, at her home with her entire loving family by her side.
Shirley was born October 20, 1931, daughter of Albert and Marie (Banville) Pare. She attended St. Joseph’s School and later attended Haverhill High School, graduating in 1949.
She was a devout Catholic, attending St. Joseph’s (All Saints) and later, St. John The Baptist, both in Haverhill, for many years. Her faith was strong and she always considered it to be a very important aspect of her life, leaning on her faith in her most difficult times.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Francis William Schena, who passed away suddenly in 1963. While raising her four young children on her own, Shirley worked with her father Albert, who started the Albert Pare Brokerage Company where she sold stocks and bonds. In the mid 1960’s she was appointed the first woman on the Boston Stock Exchange. She was a smart and successful woman with an exceptionally sharp business acumen and strong work ethic, similar to her French Canadian father. After marrying John Rosatone, in 1971, she went to work building with him their small accounting business into a sizeable firm that exists today in Haverhill & Seabrook, NH.
She served as a member on the Board of Albert Pare, Co., John A. Rosatone P.C. and Hale Hospital Trustees. Shirley was also a member of the Merrimack Valley Soroptimist International at the Hale Hospital in Haverhill’s Riverside in the 1980’s.
In her later years, she spent time at their condos in Old Orchard Beach, ME, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She did the things she loved the most, such as visiting local casinos, beaches, visiting with friends, having her family visit and often loved exploring famous gourmet restaurants around the world.
Shirley was very talented, with a great flair for interior, floral and landscape design, creating and designing for her home and yard. She enjoyed spending time in her beautiful, landscaped grounds and lovely garden that she created. She had great class, a flair for being a very sharp, and in-style dresser and having an amazing taste for clothing and outfits.
Mostly, Shirley will be fondly remembered for being an amazing gourmet chef, often cooking fabulous French cuisine and other memorable holiday dishes that her family enjoyed, a favorite of which was her delicious clam chowder. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, playing cards, visiting casinos, and entertaining her family and friends; planning and cooking incredible, gourmet menus and creating all the decorations herself.
Shirley, affectionately known as Shirl the Pearl, was loved and cherished for being a wonderful, hardworking wife, mother and friend to her children, always making time to listen, and offering the best advice she could. She was a beautiful person, a kind fun-loving spirit, with a warm welcoming smile, offering loving hugs, always presented a happy, positive demeanor and loved a really good laugh. She will truly be sadly missed by all of her family and friends!
Shirley is survived by her husband John, and her four children, Roderick Schena and his wife Beverly of Newton, NH; Sandy Schena of Hampstead, NH; Bryan Schena and his wife Donna of Haverhill; and Laurie (Schena) Fiorilla and her husband Sam of Methuen. She also leaves a sister, Joanne Beauregard and her husband Richard of Haverhill, her brother-in-law, Raymond Rosatone of Haverhill, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude and heartfelt thanks to all of Shirley’s caregivers who have assisted her over these past few years with great loving care.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Monday afternoon, Nov. 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Her Funeral will be Tuesday morning, Nov. 20, beginning at 10:00 am from the Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at in St. John The Baptist Church, Haverhill.
