Obituary for Joseph J. Vacirca

Joseph J. Vacirca, 103, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, at the Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, Haverhill.

Born, raised and educated in Lawrence, Mr. Vacirca attended the Oliver grammar school and graduated from Lawrence High School. Following graduation, he attended the Eastern Radio Institute of Boston, where he earned a certification in radio technology.

Mr. Vacirca served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a radio technician. During his tour of duty he was awarded an American Theater Campaign Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant T4.

Mr. Vacirca co-owned and operated The Typewriter Exchange in Lawrence with his (late) brother Salvatore “Sully” Vacirca for over fifty years.

He was predeceased by his loving wife H. “Raye” (Bergeron) Vacirca who passed away in 2007 and his brother, Salvatore Vacirca.

Mr. Vacirca is survived by his daughter Linda Vacirca and her husband Lou Doucet of Salem, NH; two grandchildren, Tyler and Tegan Vacirca Doucet also of Salem, NH; Niece Margherita (Vacirca) Caron of North Andover and a nephew, Frank P. Vacirca of Fernandina Beach FL.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his graveside service on Tuesday Jan. 2, at 2PM at Linwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by the H.L.
