Obituary for G. Donald Glazier, Jr.

G. Donald Glazier, Jr., 77, of Haverhill passed away Thursday May 4, 2017 at Merrimack Valley Health Center in Amesbury after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Don was born in Medford, MA on April 4, 1940, to the late Rev. Glenn D. and Ella (Brower) Glazier.

He graduated from Norfolk County Agricultural High School and went on to receive an Associate Degree in Animal Science from Stockbridge School of Agriculture, Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Education from Kansas State University, and a Master's Degree from UNH. Don proudly received his PH.D. in Agricultural Education, Educational Administration, and Animal Science in 1975 from Ohio State University.

Don's started his teaching career in Almena Kansas. He then made his way back to New England where he continued his love of teaching at Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute. He also served as the Essex County 4-H Extension agent. In the latter part of his career, spanning almost forty years, he held multiple administrative positions involving admissions and student services at both “The Aggie” and North Shore Community College.

Don was active in his church, serving on many boards and committees, proudly bellowing out the church music he loved as a member of the choir. His hobbies included watching his favorite New England sports teams, cooking and baking, and making gingerbread houses for decorating! His longstanding involvement with the Topsfield Fair included judging the youth cattle show, doing milking demonstrations and serving on the cattle committee. He also served as President of the fair in 1981-1982. His most famous interest to all who knew him, was his love of John Deere Tractors. One of his most prized possessions was the John Deere Mower used to maintain his lawn but more popularly used to give his numerous grandchildren tractor rides in the handmade wagon hooked up to the back.

Don is survived by his wife of 30 years Bonnie C. (Wood) Glazier; his four daughters Kelly Tull-Martinez of Haverhill, Shannon Glazier of Haverhill, Renee and her husband Adam Noel of Crofton, MD, Danielle and her husband Frank Nobleza of Severna Park, MD; 2 step daughters Crystal and her husband Martin Sandler of Haverhill, Sarah Morse and her husband Scott Stafford of Wilmington, NC; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Glenadine Gilmore and Barbara Kroll.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, May 10th from 4-7 pm at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill. His memorial service will be on Thursday, May 11th at 11:00 at the Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King St. Groveland. Interment will be private in the Coventry Cemetery, Coventry, VT.
